“I think I’ll have the grilled chicken salad sis, what are you having Chante asked her sister”. “Well since I don’t have to worry about fitting into a wedding dress I’m going to have the rib eye steak with a loaded baked potato”, Sheila smiled at her sister as if to rub it in her face.
“Would you ladies like one of our happy hour margaritas”? The waitress asked. “Yes”, they both responded at the same time and then looked at each other and laughed. Thanks sis, I really needed this. “Sis, no thanks necessary, that’s what sisters are for”. “You know I am here for you sis, do you want to talk about what’s really bothering you”? Sheila asked her sister.
Chante looked at her sister and smiled as she sipped on her margarita. “Sis I’m fine, now will you stop worrying and let’s enjoy our sister time”. “We don’t do this often” she said. “True” Sheila answered and she also smiled as she sipped on her margarita. She couldn’t help but think that her sister was really hiding something from her.
Sheila looked up as she saw someone out of the corner of her eye. She stared in disbelief and then mumbled “I can’t believe it”. Chante put her glass down and looked at her sister. “You can’t believe what”, “sis what’s wrong”? Then she noticed her sister was staring and as she turned to see what her sister was staring at she her sister say “that’s Bryan”.
Chante couldn’t believe it herself as she looked straight into his face. He was walking towards the ladies smiling and waving. Sheila stood up and greeted him with a hug, “Bryan, hi”, “hi Sheila, how are you”? He looked at Chante, “hi Chante he said and stood looking down at her. Chante snapped herself together and stood up, “hi Bryan, how are you” she said.
Bryan grabbed Chante and hugged her, “I’m great he said”. “It’s so nice to see both of you”. “You too” Sheila responded, “what are you doing here in Atlanta”? “Oh, I live here” he said. “Wait, what” Sheila said. “Yes”, Bryan responded, I moved here a couple of months ago. “Oh wow”, Chante said. “Well what made you move”, Sheila asked? “One of my buddies moved here from Florida and started his own business”. He made me an offer and I couldn’t miss out on another good opportunity so here I am. I realized after I left Memphis, I was not living life if I was afraid of change”. Sheila couldn’t help but feel that Bryan directed that statement towards Chante.
Chante said “Oh” as she looked at Bryan, she had a funny feeling when he smiled at her so she sat back down. “Well congratulations, it was great to see you” she said. Sheila hugged Bryan “yes it is she said”. “It is, what are you two doing in Atlanta” Bryan said. “Oh wow, it has been a while” Sheila responded. “We live here too she said”. “Whaaaattt”! Bryan said with a huge grin on his face. Sheila smiled and looked at her sister whom had a weird look on her face and was sipping on her margarita. “Yes” Sheila said, “hey Bryan, why don’t you join us”, she watched her sister to see her reaction. “Chante bucked her eyes and gave her sister a very snarling look.
“Wow, of course”, Bryan said “me and my buddies were leaving but when I saw you two, I told them I would catch up with them later. “Well cool, that settles it”, Sheila said. She couldn’t help but giggle inside as she watched her sister’s face change and she started squirming. She knew her sister was hurt when she and Bryan broke up years ago. Bryan had to go back to Florida with his job but of course that was years ago.
Chante and I were out with friends having drinks one night when we met Bryan. He was working for a restaurant as a corporate trainer and had been sent to Memphis to open a location. Bryan chatted with us at the bar and he hung out with us that night. You could tell Bryan liked Chante and they did seem to hit it off. Bryan being caucasian was different for her sister and it took Chante a minute to go out with him. She would admit she was crazy about Bryan when they were dating but she wouldn’t admit she loved him.
Bryan looked at Chante, ” Chante, I see that big rock on your hand, some guy finally snatched you up” Bryan said. Sheila looked at Bryan and “Wow”! “I think this man still got it bad”, Sheila thought to herself as she saw the look in Bryan’s eyes as he looked at her sister. She looked over at her sister to watch her face as she responded. “Chante smiled and once again had to snap herself back to reality. “I’m engaged” she responded”. “Oh really, so you’re not married yet”, Bryan said with a sarcastic tone. “No”, Chante said as she looked up at him.
“Well when is the big day”, he asked. “Were getting married next year” she said. “Aw ok, well he’s a luck guy”, Bryan said. “A very lucky guy”.
