“Who’s the lucky lady in your life”, Sheila asked Bryan trying to change the intense atmosphere. “I’ve never married and I wasn’t seeing anyone serious when I decided to move”. “I guess I just haven’t found the right one yet or I let her get away”, Bryan said smiling at Chante. Sheila was dying laughing inside as she was thinking to herself, he is really on one. Chante finally regained her composure and smiled at Bryan”you’ll find that special someone like I did”.
“I hope I do Chante” Bryan answered. “Where is the lucky man anyway, I would like to meet him”. “He had something to do today, it was a girl’s day for us”. “Oh wow, well I feel privileged you ladies let me join you.” “Actually, Sheila said the girl’s day was at the bridal gallery, we went to find a wedding dress for Chante.” Sheila watched Bryan to see his reaction.
“Wow, what a day to run into you two” he said as he stopped smiling. “It sure is” Chante said as she felt herself gaining her footing back. “I would love to see your dress Chante”. “Oh she didn’t pick out one” Sheila interrupted. “I haven’t picked out one yet! Chante corrected her sister and rolled her eyes at her. “I have time to look, I just don’t want to make the wrong choice, after all it is my wedding day and a girl only gets married once”.
“How’s your mom”? Bryan decided to change the subject this time. Bryan felt very uncomfortable after he asked that question, both of the ladies stopped smiling and it was like a darkness appeared at the table. “She, she passed a year ago” Sheila stammered as she watched her baby sister to make sure she was ok. “I’m sorry ladies” he said. “He looked at Chante and took her hand, I’m sorry. “Thanks she said as she wiped tears from here eyes”. Sheila grabbed her other hand and said “lets get that other happy hour margarita” and they looked at each other and smiled. Bryan chimed in and said “on me” and the 3 of them laughed.
Bryan hadn’t seen Chante since he left Memphis, except for checking up on her on social media. She looked great and he couldn’t help but wish he had kept in touch with her after he left. He just never knew how to reach out to her and then it be came about if she didn’t contact him, why should he contact her. “Bryan, how’s your family”, Sheila interrupted his thoughts. “Everyone is great” , he said, shaking his head to get his thoughts off of Chante.
My parents are actually coming to visit some time soon. My mom can’t wait, she thinks my house is empty and I’m living like a bomb or something. They all laughed and Sheila added, “I bet it is a total bachelor pad”. They laughed even harder and decided to have a couple more drinks, laugh even harder and reminisce over old times.
Chante stopped laughing when her phone rang. She looked at the time, “Oh my goodness and quickly got her phone from her purse”. “Hey Micheal”, it was good”. “No, I didn’t pick out a dress”. “Actually Sheila took me out to eat and for drinks”. “I miss you too, ok see you later”. Sheila noticed how her sister’s tone changed and she wasn’t sure if it was because she was nervous with Bryan being there.
“I kept you too long Chante”, Bryan smirked. “No she said, my sweetie was just checking on me”. “I don’t blame him, I would check on you too”. This time Sheila looked at Bryan with her mouth wide open, like really dude, are you going to be that obvious.
I would love to catch up with you two, we should have dinner. Chante you can bring Mr Right, that would give me a chance to meet him. “I would love to”, Sheila said. “I would have to check with Micheal, when are you talking about”, Chante answered. What about next weekend, Bryan asked. “Oh next weekend would work better for me Sheila said, me too Chante answered”. “Ok then, next Saturday night” dinner the four of us, how about Seasons 52. “Ok, sounds good”, Chante said.
well I gotta get going, I will see you later sis, Bryan it was good to see you.” “Oh you’re not leaving us in here Sheila stammered, were all going together. They all laughed as Bryan took the check from Sheila and paid it, then the 3 of them walked out of the restaurant together.
“Ladies it was great to see y’all again”, Bryan said as he hugged Sheila. “You too” Sheila said. Bryan quickly grabbed Chante as he could tell she was trying to get away. “You can’t get away from me that quick lady”, he hugged Chante and whispered in her ear “it was great to see you”. She looked up at him, “you too Bryan” she said. Sheila grabbed her sister by the arm and they walked toward their cars, Bryan waved at them and walked in the opposite direction toward his car.
I’ll see y’all next weekend Bryan called out as they went their separate ways. Bryan watched Chante walk to her car and he couldn’t help but feel excited about seeing her again next Saturday.
