Michael I really don’t understand why you have to leave dinner early, I gave you plenty of notice. “Baby look, I promised the guys I would be there, I forgot you said it was this Saturday”. “Yeah ok Micheal, I guess it’s no big deal”. “Chante don’t act like that, you’re just having dinner with your sister and some old friend”. Micheal’s words really bothered Chante, she felt like she was always taking back seat. “I’l talk to you later baby, I gotta get to this meeting”, Michael hung up the phone.
Chante decided to pack up early and take work home for the weekend. Her phone started ringing as soon as she got in the car, it was Sheila. “Hey sis”, she said. “Hey girl, what’s going, are you headed home”? Sheila asked her. Yeah, I decided to leave early and just take work home for the weekend. “Chante you work all the time, when are you going to take some time for yourself”? Sheila exclaimed, I really wish you would stop working so hard, I worry about you.
Chante must have stopped listening to her sister at some point because the next thing she heard was her sister yelling her name over and over. “Chante, Chante, are you listening to me”? “Yes sis, I’m listening, I am fine, please stop worrying and lecturing me”. Sheila could tell there was something bothering her sister and decided to change the subject.
I got a text from Bryan, he wants us to meet at 7pm at the restaurant, is that ok with you? “Sure” Chante answered, non nonchalantly. “Michael is now leaving dinner early and he is picking me ups so I’ll be leaving too”. “What, Why”! Sheila said. “He says he has something to do with the guys, as usual”. Sheila sensed the disappointment in her sister’s voice. “Chante look, it’s a night to relax and enjoy, you go ahead and ride with your man and I’ll take you home ok”.
Sheila it’s ok, I guess it’s a sacrifice you have to make sometimes huh. Um, not all the time Chante, Sheila told her sister. We’re going to enjoy ourselves tomorrow, it’s been a while since we have been out, and you deserve it, end of discussion! Sheila told her sister. “Wait, I am grown”, Chante exclaimed! “Who cares, I’m the oldest, Sheila exclaimed! “You’re the best OLD sister too, Chante said”. They both laughed really hard. I love you sis, I love you too Chante told her sister, see you tomorrow as Sheila hung up.
Chante fixed herself a glass of wine when she got out of the shower and turned on one of her favorite movies, All About The Benjamins. She had planned on working a little but she was frustrated thinking about Michael and decided she needed to relax. By the end of the movie Chante had finished the entire bottle of wine and had fallen asleep. She woke up suddenly and startled to a dream that caught her by surprise and shook her up. She was shaking so bad she didn’t know what to do. She put on some soft music to calm down and go back to sleep. She eventually went back to sleep but she tossed and turned the rest of the night.
Sheila was really worried about Chante but she knew if she talked to their dad, he was going to call Chante. She decided to wait until tomorrow and try to talk to her sister one more time before she got her father involved. She couldn’t help but feel that Michael had something to do with the change in her sister and she didn’t want her sister to be in an unhappy situation. When their mom died, Chante went through a lot, she had called off the wedding, had a miscarriage and had become very ill. It took months for her to get herself back to attempting to live life and to agree to the wedding.
Sheila felt it was time for her sister to be happy and enjoy her life. She felt her sister needed to live her life for herself and stop trying to make every body else happy, meaning Michael.
