Tina rolled over, picking up her phone to turn off the alarm. She noticed she had new notifications from the dating app and got excited. She sat up and scrolled through the notifications smiling at the number of views she received. She felt encouraged, maybe some men do like big women she thought. She was hesitant to include a full picture of herself in her profile photos. She had become very self conscious about her weight and didn’t like taking full photos.
As she scrolled, she noticed the same man that viewed her before had viewed her again. She immediately scrolled past him and then backed up slowly to his photo. She looked at his picture for a moment, he was very handsome but as she looked down at his age, she thought to herself, I just can’t. Tina told herself after her ex husband she wouldn’t get involved with anyone younger ever again.
She scrolled on past his photo and decided to respond to a few messages before getting ready for work. As she was going through the messages, she received a notification from someone she had just responded to. Tina immediately viewed the message and was pleasantly surprised at the greeting, “good morning beautiful, have a good day”. She practically skipped out the door heading to work.
It was time for her break and Tina couldn’t wait to check her phone to see if she had any messages. As she picked up the phone she started smiling when she saw the notification icon. She clicked on it and gasped at the number of views and messages. She started scrolling, viewing, reading, and responding and suddenly, she stopped. She couldn’t believe it, the same man had viewed her profile again. She immediately started scrolling again to dismiss him.
Tina was reading the messages when she realized one of the messages was from the same man she had been avoiding. She opened the message and smiled, the 1st message was a heart, the 2nd message said beautiful you. To her, that meant a lot. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to respond and say thank she thought. She decided to go ahead and respond saying thank you, then shockingly moving as if by command she responded again saying how are you?
She viewed his profile and was surprised to see how different and mature his profile was from the others she’d viewed. She started to regret responding and closed the app. She was stuck on the fact he was 44 and she was 46, she just didn’t want to meet anyone younger. She felt it would be a mistake, a repeat disaster waiting to happen.
She felt discouraged like she was not going to find her happiness, her time to “Breathe”. She slumped in the chair by her bed and started crying out, “it just isn’t fair, why can’t I be happy”! Like always, Jesus was right there to remind her whispering in her ear, your time is coming, you will be able to “Breathe”. She stopped and looked up, she instantly knew Jesus was by her side telling her it was going to be alright. She pulled herself together, whispered thank you and opened the app.
