MEN DON’T (II)

David got up early deciding to call Ron for one of their verbal cups of coffee but he didn’t get an answer.  “Hey man, I was just calling you for a cup of coffee since we didn’t talk yesterday”, “call me when you get a chance”.  David left Ron a message and headed to work.

Ron checked his messages after he got ready for work.  He was dragging this morning, trying to get it together.  He closed his eyes as he listened to David’s message.  He took a deep sigh as he heard the Dr’s words, Mr Willis I really regret to inform you but you have prostate cancer.  He shook his head hard to clear the fog and block it from his mind.

He hasn’t told anyone, he doesn’t know how to tell anyone, not even his wife or his best friend.  Men Don’t worry or go through emotional stuff like this he thought to himself.   He and David had been friends for a long time and they had been through a lot, including their families.  Ron just didn’t know how to deal with this one.

David walked into his office building taking a deep breath and smiling to put on a good front.  Deep inside he was really worried about his friend and didn’t want to be at work today.   He let his shoulders down as he opened the door to his office and breathed a sigh of relief.  He closed the door to give himself a moment to get it together.

David was really feeling like something was wrong with Ron.  He hasn’t even received a text message from him.  Instantly he shook his head, “wait” “what”!  He thought, I sound like a darn woman and laughed it off, Men Don’t act like this he said to himself.   He got it together and headed to the break room for another cup of coffee.

Ron just sat in his car at the warehouse office, he started feeling overwhelmed.  He started getting teary eyed and felt out of control, he couldn’t catch his breathe.  He just sat there until he calmed down.  He started his car, dried his face and pulled out of the parking lot.  He decided to call in to work today, he just couldn’t bring himself to go in to the building.  Men Don’t lose control he thought to himself.

He decided to take a sleeping pill to try and get some rest.  He was restless last night and was up and down trying not to keep his wife up.  He got back in his pajamas, crawled back in bed and pulled the covers up to his chin.  As he started to get teary eyed again he started to pray and ask Jesus to be with him.

Ron knew it had been a while since he prayed, he didn’t even know if Jesus would listen to him.  He just wanted to have some calmness right now.  He wasn’t asking for a miracle or anything like that, he guess he was getting what he deserved even though deep inside he didn’t feel it was fair.  Ron closed his eyes as he continued to pray and eventually the prayers stopped as he feel asleep.

David got so busy after his conference call he gasped when he realized it was lunch time.  Still know Ron so he decided to call him.  The phone was going straight to voicemail.  David shook his head and tried to call his wife to see if she had spoken with Ron’s wife but of course she didn’t answer either.  He figured she was busy but he had to try.

He grabbed his keys and decided to head to The bistro for some lunch, he was trying to keep himself occupied so he wouldn’t worry.  Ron did always harass him about worrying so much and acting like a female, he smiled to himself as he thought about it.  He could hear Ron saying Men Don’t act like that, it’s a woman’s job.  He saw some of his co workers at The Bistro and decided to join them.

David’s wife called him, she told him she hadn’t spoken with Ron’s.  Things had been hectic at work  for her and it was the first time she had a chance to take a break.  He shook his head and decided he would go over to Ron’s house this evening when he got off.  It just doesn’t seem right for Ron to not call nor text him in all this time.

Worrying or not, female acting or not David decided his friend was going to have to tell him something because this was not normal.   He knew if it turned out to be nothing  Ron would give him a hard time.  It didn’t matter to David,  he was willing to hear what ever criticism Ron had to dish out and what ever he had to say about what Men Don’t!

See you after work!
